No police department can be without the unsung heros that work the communications department. These men and women can mean the difference between life and death. They receive the calls and dispatch the units that respond to emergencies. They give you the information that can save your life but are often overlooked when people talk about a police department.
The communication officers that work in Wildwood are highly trained and motivated individuals that use a variety of modern resources to quickly enable them to assess a situation and provide the officer on the street with the information needed to perform their job. They are trained to use the NCIC, SCIC, ATS, ACS computer systems that can track down or locate wanted persons and stolen property. Probably the most misunderstood and misused system in the communications room is the 9-1-1 system. It is designed to be use for emergency police calls only. So if you need an officer in a hurry dial 9-1-1 but if you don't please call the business number of your department.
